Dark cherry, boysenberry, and cocoa hit first, backed by clove, cinnamon, and roasted spice — the signature of a vineyard with serious hang time. Clark & Telephone was established in 1972 and planted own-rooted to the rare Martini clone, one of the first Pinot Noir clones grown on the California coast. Sitting just 13 miles from the Pacific, the site pulls marine fog and ocean wind through August, stretching the growing season and concentrating flavor in small berries. Joe Wagner — fifth-generation Napa winemaker and grandson of Caymus co-founder Lorna Belle Glos Wagner — destems, cold soaks for 14 days, ferments in stainless steel, then ages in French oak (60% new) for 12 months. The palate is full and plush, finishing with baked blackberry, cardamom, and velvety tannins.
