Sous le Puits sits at the top of Puligny up against Blagny, higher and cooler than the grand crus below, and Balland-Curtet works 0.23 hectares of it — vines past 35 years old on clay-limestone facing southeast. Guy Balland buys prized parcels across the Côte de Beaune and leases much of them out to famous neighbors, keeping his choicest sites for his own label; growing and vinification are handled en métayage by a leading Saint-Aubin domaine. Aged in barrel, 20% new, at 13.5%: buttery and spiced, round and broad in a distinctly Meursault-leaning way.
