Altesino pioneered the single-vineyard concept in Montalcino, releasing the first Montosoli cru Brunello in 1975 and introducing barrique aging to the region in 1979. The Montosoli vineyard sits on the northeastern slopes of Montalcino — galestro and limestone-rich soils at cooler elevations that temper Sangiovese's power with aromatic complexity. Sustainably farmed and owned by the Gnudi Angelini family since 2002, the estate operates from a 15th-century palazzo. The 2021 Montosoli pours deep ruby and delivers black cherry, raspberry, and violet laced with licorice, vanilla, and black pepper, finishing warm, opulent, and persistent.
