Aldo Conterno's 2021 Barolo sources Michet and Lampia clones of Nebbiolo from multiple vineyard parcels within Bussia in Monforte d'Alba, where vines aged 15-20 years grow on calcareous marl soils that provide the tannin structure and aromatic complexity characteristic of this historic cru. Hand-harvested in mid-October with vineyard selections, the grapes macerate 20-30 days in stainless steel with peak fermentation temperatures reaching 32°C to extract full phenolic content before multiple rackings and extended aging in oak casks.
Tar, rose petals, and red cherry dominate the nose, while the palate shows kirsch, dried herbs, licorice, and firm tannins that reflect both the long maceration period and Bussia's clay-rich substrata that moderate water stress and promote slow, even ripening. The extended skin contact and traditional large-cask aging follow Barolo DOCG requirements while expressing the muscular, age-worthy style typical of Monforte d'Alba's higher-elevation southwestern vineyards.
