Justin Willett blends fruit from Happy Canyon Vineyard's steep, west-facing river cobble slopes and Ad Ripa's monopole China Blue Vineyard, where clay loam mingles with red chert and serpentine cobbles across Happy Canyon AVA's warmest microclimate. Clones 4, 8, 28, and To Kalon from 2001, 2011, and 2016 plantings undergo native yeast fermentation in open-top oak with two weeks on skins before 22 months in 50% new French oak. The 2022 yields 13.5% alcohol, bottled un-fined and unfiltered with layered black fruit, stony minerality, and polished tannins that showcase the contrasting soils and Ad Ripa's practicing organic, low-intervention approach.
