GAJA CA MARCANDA CA'MARCANDA 2019

The name Ca marcanda ( house of endless negotiations ) refers to Angelo Gaja s lengthy process to acquire this Bolgheri vineyard, planted in limestone-rich white soils with clay and stones. Production began in 2000 after the 1996 purchase. The 2019 vintage saw a dry, cold winter followed by spring storms that recharged moisture levels, though hot, dry conditions returned through July until substantial rain fell, allowing slower, balanced ripening. After separate fermentations for the varieties, the components aged 12 months in oak and 6 months in concrete before blending. The final wine shows a ruby red hue and an aromatic nose of herbs, cinnamon, myrtle, and graphite. On the palate, cherry, raspberry, and blood orange flavors mingle with fine-grained tannins and bright acidity, leading to an elegant, saline finish.
