Washington is the United States' second-largest wine producer, and almost all of it comes from the dry, sun-baked east of the state. Across the Columbia Valley and its sub-regions, hot days and cool nights produce ripe but structured reds — Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah lead — along with crisp Riesling and Chardonnay.
