Royal Tokaji, established in 1990, is a winery located in the village of Mád in the Tokaj wine region of Hungary, known for producing exceptional white wines using traditional methods dating back to the 17th century. The winery owns a combination of first and second-growth vineyards, including the renowned Mézes Mály, and primarily uses three grape varieties: Furmint, Hárslevelü, and Muscat de Lunel. Royal Tokaji's state-of-the-art winery, designed by Csaba Bodonyi, accommodates over 1,000 oak barrels for aging and has a stainless-steel tank capacity of 71,325 gallons. The winery produces several styles of wine, including dry, off-dry, and the iconic Tokaji Aszú, which is made by adding aszú berries affected by noble rot to a base wine, resulting in a sweet, rich, and complex wine that is aged for a minimum of three years before release.
The Royal Tokaji Late Harvest is a delightful sweet wine that offers a more accessible alternative to the traditional aszú wines, while still maintaining the vibrant character of the Tokaj region. This wine is produced using partial bunch selection, which includes a mix of ripe, overripe, and botrytised berries, resulting in a distinctive Tokaji profile without the need for extended aging. The 2018 vintage was characterized by a warm, dry summer and the earliest harvest in living memory, yielding healthy, ripe grapes with firm acidity and excellent quality. The favorable conditions allowed for the inclusion of a generous proportion of fine aszú berries in the blend. After pressing, the juice was fermented in tanks using indigenous yeast, and the majority of the blend was then matured in barrels for five to six months. The Late Harvest has a pale gold color and delicate citrus and spicy aromas. On the palate, it is light and refreshing, with hints of white peach and honey, excellent acid balance, a smooth, silky texture, and a clean, long, crisp finish. This wine is a testament to Royal Tokaji's commitment to quality, house style, and balance.
This amber-colored late-harvest wine from Tokaj has aromas of honeycomb and white flowers, especially jasmine and freesia. In the mouth, it has nice fruit sweetness and flavors of clover honey, ripe apricot and yellow peach.
This lightly mouth-coating sweetie is creamy and just off-dry, showing juicy acidity layered with flavors of baked pineapple, apple peel, crushed shortbread, candied ginger and aromatic hints of jasmine and anise.
