Jean-Baptiste Souillard is a winemaker from the Northern Rhone region in France, known for his meticulous approach to viticulture and vinification. His Roussanne vineyard, located in the southern part of the Ardèche, is planted on a steep east-facing slope with granite and sandstone soils at an elevation of 380-450 meters. Souillard practices "lutte raisonnée," a sustainable approach to viticulture that minimizes chemical use.
Syrah. Deep purple hue. Aromas of ripe black fruits, smoky spice and crushed violets unfurl from the glass. On the palate, layers of blackberry, black plum and peppery notes are supported by fine-grained tannins and a mineral undertone from the granite soils. The whole cluster fermentation lends a savory, stemmy complexity. A structured yet velvety Syrah with impressive depth and length from mature vines planted in the 1980s-90s. Unfined and unfiltered for maximum flavor intensity. Aged 13 months in neutral oak barrels.
