Dean Hewitson established his namesake winery in 1998 in Australia's renowned Barossa Valley, bringing together his extensive international winemaking experience from France, Italy, Oregon, and his advanced education from both Roseworthy College and UC-Davis. The winery's portfolio centers on single-vineyard expressions, most notably from some of the world's oldest living vines, including the historic 'Old Garden' Mourvèdre (planted 1853) and 'Miss Harry' Grenache (planted 1880). Hewitson's winemaking philosophy marries Old-World traditions with New-World precision, producing wines that showcase the unique terroir of Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and Adelaide Hills. Operating under "Sustainable Winegrowing Australia" certification, the winery demonstrates a commitment to environmental stewardship through solar energy, water recycling, and biodiversity initiatives, while crafting award-winning wines across various varietals, from Rhône-style blends to Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.
Medium red with a bright purple hue. Aromas of dark, brambly, blueberry aromas are matched with dried herbs, earth and undergrowth. On the palate, sarsaparilla and classic blue fruits deliver a rich, velvety mouth feel, backed by very soft and fully ripe tannins.
