Napa Valley legend Miljenko "Mike" Grgich, famed for his victory at the 1976 Paris Tasting with Chateau Montelena Chardonnay, partnered with Austin Hills in 1977 to establish Grgich Hills Estate. Focused on quality and sustainability, they craft award-winning Chardonnays alongside other varietals, using estate grapes and natural practices. Now led by Mike's family, Grgich Hills Estate remains committed to Mike's legacy of exceptional wines.

This cool climate Merlot comes from our vineyards in southern Napa Valley grown within sight of the San Francisco Bay. We blend in a small amount of Merlot from our warmer upper Napa Valley vineyards to create a complex and balanced wine.

A solid effort, the 2018 Merlot has attractive earthy black cherry fruit as well as subtle cedary spice, leather, and dried herb aromas and flavors. With a slightly Bordeaux-like style, it's medium-bodied, nicely balanced, has a soft, easy style, and is ideal for drinking over the coming 3-5 years.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Merlot hits the ground running with open-knit scents of baked black cherries, stewed plums and boysenberries plus an undercurrent of wild sage, cloves and tar. Medium-bodied, the palate offers a good amount of black fruit with loads of herbal accents and a chewy texture, finishing with a lively lift.  Lisa Perrotti-Brown
