This Brunello di Montalcino is a culmination of grapes from various vineyards in Pieve Santa Restituta. Each vineyard's grapes ferment and macerate separately before being blended together after 24 months of oak aging. The resulting wine is a classic Brunello with a light ruby color and aromas of herbs, red berries, and hints of vanilla. Balanced acidity and sweet tannins make it enjoyable now, but it also has the potential to age gracefully for those who prefer a more developed Brunello experience.
Located in the southwest subzone of the Brunello di Montalcino appellation, the Pieve Santa Restituta estate was acquired by the Gaja family in 1994. The estate’s original forty acres of vineyards are located in the southwest subzone of the Brunello di Montalcino appellation. The white, rocky soils of this area were abandoned by the share-cropper mezzadri farmers long ago: while other crops struggled in the rugged, nutrient-poor terrain of this area, it has proven ideal for the cultivation of grapes destined to become fine wine.
The estate takes its name from the parish church (pieve in Italian) of Saint Restituta- Pieve Santa Restituta. The church on the Gaja family’s estate represents a truly unique example of medieval Christian architecture and art. The Gaja family has worked painstakingly to restore this beautiful and remarkable house of worship. The unique history of Pieve Santa Restituta is honored on the label artwork for the estate wines.
