Description of Product
GAJA, a renowned winery in Piedmont, northwestern Italy, is considered one of the world s greatest estates, producing coveted and collectible wines. Founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja, the winery has been led by five generations of the Gaja family, each committed to producing original wines that reflect the tradition and culture of their terroir. GAJA owns 240 acres of vineyards in the Barbaresco and Barolo DOCGs, working primarily with the region s traditional grape varieties. Under Angelo Gaja s leadership, the winery pioneered single-vineyard wines in Piedmont and introduced innovative winemaking practices, including the use of Bordeaux varietals and barriques. This blend of tradition and innovation has elevated Barbaresco to international acclaim and contributed to a resurgence of Italian wines globally, cementing GAJA s reputation as a standard-bearer for excellence in winemaking. The 2020 Barolo DaGromis from GAJA is a wine that showcases the terroir of two renowned Barolo subregions: La Morra and Serralunga. Made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, this wine is a tribute to the previous landowner, Gromis. The 2020 vintage was characterized by unusual weather patterns, including frequent summer rains and temperature fluctuations, which ultimately contributed to improved grape quality. The winemaking process involves separate fermentation, maceration, and aging for each vineyard s grapes, followed by blending and further oak aging for a total of 30 months. With 14% alcohol content, the wine exhibits a restrained, ethereal nose dominated by floral notes, medium structure, sweet tannins, good freshness, and a long, salty finish. This Barolo DaGromis represents GAJA s commitment to expressing the unique characteristics of Piedmont s terroir through sustainable viticulture and meticulous winemaking.
