The Cogno family has been producing wine for four generations in Piedmont, with Elvio Cogno establishing his eponymous winery in 1990 on the historic Bricco Ravera hill near Novello. After restoring the 18th-century farmhouse and converting the granaries to wine cellars, Elvio devoted himself to traditional winemaking methods passed down from his father and grandfather. Now, his daughter Nadia and her husband Valter Fissore, who worked alongside Elvio for 25 years, continue the family legacy, producing elegant wines that honor the Langhe traditions, styles, and flavors. The winery sits atop Bricco Ravera, one of the finest crus in Novello, offering breathtaking views and a unique terroir.
The 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo Montegrilli is an attractive wine to drink now and over the next few years. Sweet dried cherry, cedar, pipe tobacco and dried flowers are all laced together. I would prefer to drink this ethereal Langhe Nebbiolo over the next few years.
A gorgeous wine, complex and elegant and to drink gallons of. Rhubarb and cherry and a beautiful captivating pale ruby colour. This screams Nebbiolo. A wine in its own right, not some declassified Barolo fruit. Gorgeous, supple elegant fruit with great depth and super-fine tannins. Long and lingering. Snap this up while you can. (WS)
