Elena Walch is a renowned family-run winery in Alto Adige, Italy, known for spearheading a quality revolution in the region. Founded by Elena Walch, an architect who married into a prominent wine family, the estate has gained international acclaim for its innovative approach to winemaking. Now led by Elena's daughters, Julia and Karoline, the winery manages 90 hectares of vineyards, including the prestigious VIGNA Castel Ringberg and VIGNA Kastelaz sites. The estate is celebrated for its varietal wines, single-vineyard "Vigna" wines, and award-winning cuvées like "Beyond the Clouds." Committed to sustainability and terroir-driven winemaking, Elena Walch produces wines that reflect the unique characteristics of Alto Adige's Mediterranean climate and high-altitude vineyards, resulting in fresh, fruity whites and concentrated, velvety reds with distinct personality and elegance.
Elena Walch's Sauvignon Blanc Vigna "Castel Ringberg" is a prestigious single-vineyard wine from the Alto Adige DOC region in Italy. The vineyard, named after a 17th-century Habsburg castle, is located on the slopes above Lake Caldaro at altitudes between 330 and 400 meters. The soil is a unique mix of ancient Adige River gravel, calcareous soils, and loose limestone, contributing to the wine's distinctive minerality. This 100% Sauvignon Blanc is crafted using a combination of temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel and partial fermentation in barriques. With 13.5% alcohol content, the wine displays an elegant straw yellow color with green accents. It offers a complex bouquet of elderflower, mountain herbs, and gooseberries, complemented by a palate of fruity fullness, elegant structure, and juicy minerality. The unique terroir, influenced by the lake and the "Ora" wind, results in a harmonious and complex Sauvignon Blanc with significant aging potential.
