Domaine Ramonet, established in Chassagne-Montrachet during the late 1920s by Pierre Ramonet, represents a remarkable success story in Burgundian winemaking. Starting with just a knapsack to his name during the Depression era, Pierre strategically acquired vineyard plots, beginning with the pivotal purchase of Ruchottes in 1934. His breakthrough came when wine critic Raymond Baudoin championed his wines, coinciding with the end of Prohibition and leading to Frank Schoonmaker becoming the domaine's first American importer. The estate's crowning achievement occurred in 1978 with the acquisition of a plot in Montrachet, considered the world's finest white wine vineyard. Now managed by Pierre's grandchildren Noël and Jean-Claude since 1984, the domaine encompasses 40 acres producing 24 appellations, primarily around Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet in the southern Côte de Beaune, with their Montrachet remaining one of the world's most acclaimed white wines.
This wine shows a pale straw color and offers pristine aromas of white orchard fruits and citrus lifted by salty mineral notes. The palate unfolds with juicy layers of pear, apple, peach, and citrus, building to a powerfully intense mid-palate that maintains perfect balance through its silky texture and extended finish.
