Prominent but not dominant wood isn't subtle on the equally cool, airy and layered aromas of wild dark currant, earth, the sauvage and hints of oak spice. The racy and impressively intense middleweight plus flavors flash focused power on the bitter pit fruit, youthfully austere and firmly structured finale. This excellent Corton is clearly built-to-age and a wine that's going to need it.
The 2021 Corton les Renardes Grand Cru is de-stemmed with 50% new French oak instead of the usual 100%. It has a very focused and intense bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, hints of pain d'épices and bay leaf. The palate is well-defined, with fine tannins that are very supple and lithe, sweet and pure with a touch of white pepper on its discrete finish that has a very small attenuation. This is a refined Corton-Renardes. Neal Martin
