Near the foot of Mont Ventoux and under the watch of the Dentelles de Montmirail, just to the south of the fabulous ancient city of Orange, sits the Domaine Lou Fréjau. It has been a family business for over five generations. In 2007, they officially made the transition to organic farming.
Clay and limestone soil covered with pebbles. The vinification is a traditional long fermentation lasting about 3 weeks. In the cellar, it is poured in huge oak casks (30-50 hl) where the liquid enjoys a moment of rest. It will mature for about 12 months on average, depending on the vintage.
Crimson with purple hues, bright and intense. Complex floral and fruity nose supplemented by spicy notes, garrigue, and mineral. It has a powerful and elegant framework, but remains generous and round in the mouth with beautiful aromas of red and black fruit. The finish reveals all its qualities. Very good aging potential.
The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape is terrific and certainly an outstanding wine. Darker berry fruits, peppered meat, iron, and some gamey, exotic notes emerge on the nose, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a deep, layered, impressively structured mouthfeel and a great finish. Its purity of fruit is top-notch. This is 49% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, and the rest Syrah, Cinsault, and Terret, aged all in foudre.
