Coal Pit is a Central Otago winery dedicated to organic viticulture, crafting world-class wines from their unique elevated vineyard. Gibbston, the vineyard's home, is Central Otago's highest sub-region, known for its dramatic temperature swings and breathtaking scenery. These extremes create ideal conditions for grapes, resulting in intensely flavored fruit that shines through in Coal Pit's wines.
The Coal Pit Proprietor's Reserve Sauvignon Blanc is a testament to the winery's dedication to quality. Crafted from hand-picked fruit on mature vines, this luscious Sauvignon Blanc boasts a complex profile. Expect delicate floral and citrus aromas intertwined with hints of tropical fruit and savory Thai basil. The palate is equally captivating, offering a delightful mix of ripe green apple, juicy stone fruit, and a touch of creamy richness. Balanced by a mineral backbone, this dry and elegant Sauvignon Blanc is a truly special wine.
The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Proprietor's Reserve is an impressive, concentrated style. From Gibbston, the coolest subregion in Central Otago, it's firm and direct with attractive grapefruit, nettle, nectarine and blackcurrant flavors. While there's no doubting this wine's core of acidity and its punchy expression, barrel fermentation on its lees has rounded its edges and amplified the texture on the palate. Oak is a mere vessel, having no part to play in terms of flavor, but there are subtle, lees-derived pastry notes that linger on the sinewy finish.
A sharp sauvignon blanc with green papaya, ash, dried grapefruit and green beans on the nose. Medium-bodied with tangy acidity. Slightly green at the end. Drink now. Screw cap.
