Chateau Leydet-Valentin commands an exceptional position in Saint-Emilion, with vineyards bordering the legendary Cheval Blanc estate. This nine-hectare property thrives on distinctive soils rich in sand, fine gravel, and iron deposits - a terroir that particularly favors Cabernet Franc. Under Frédéric Leydet's stewardship, the estate achieved organic certification in 2015, continuing a family legacy that began in 1962 while embracing progressive viticultural practices.

The 2020 Saint-Emilion Grand Cru masterfully blends 73% Merlot with 27% Cabernet Franc, showcasing Leydet's minimalist winemaking philosophy. Natural fermentation and aging on lees without racking, fining, or filtration creates an authentically traditional Bordeaux expression. Notes of ripe black plums and fresh violets mingle with crushed stones and forest floor, while supple tannins frame the palate with refined structure. The wine's iron-rich terroir imparts a distinctive mineral tension, making this a compelling addition to any collector's cellar.

Jeb Dunnuck: 92 Points

A blend of 72% Merlot and 28% Cabernet Franc, the deep purple-hued 2020 Château Leydet-Valentin offers up a ripe, sexy, full-bodied style that carries ample red and black plum-like fruits, some earthy, Christmas spice, and, herbal nuances, velvety tannins, and a great finish. This fruit-loaded, opulent, incredibly impressive Saint-Emilion will keep for 15 years.

Vinous: 92 Points

The 2020 Leydet Valentin is loaded with super-ripe dark fruit, leather, licorice, incense and chocolate. Racy and deep, the 2020 possesses notable depth and tons of character. There's terrific immediacy here, and tons of class, too.

James Suckling: 91 Points

Ripe blackberries and mulberries with hints of sweet spices, dried orange peel and dried flowers. Medium-bodied with firm tannins and bright acidity that brings juiciness to the blue-fruited character. Polished finish. 73% merlot and 27% cabernet franc. Drink or hold.

Wine Advocate: 90-92 Points

The 2020 Leydet Valentin has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and notes of boysenberries, wild blueberries and fresh raspberries, plus wafts of dried mint, lavender and ground cloves. The medium-bodied palate is delicately fruited and refreshing, featuring a soft texture, finishing with a minty lift.
