Château Suduiraut boasts a rich history dating back to 1580. The estate has seen its share of drama, being burned down and rebuilt, and even changing names along the way. Classified as a Premier Cru in 1855, it's known today for its exceptional wines.
The vineyard thrives on a unique combination of factors. Sunlight and mist create ideal conditions for noble rot, a key element in their sweet wines. The gravelly soil helps ripen grapes while the thin layer forces the vines to work harder, resulting in concentrated flavors with a distinct minerality. This interplay of richness and minerality is what makes Suduiraut wines a truly special experience.
The 2022 Lions de Suduiraut Blanc Sec is matured in 20% new oak for 6 months. Grapefruit and light gooseberry scents on the nose. This is quite clean and precise. The palate is well balanced if a little simple, though I appreciate the waxy texture and the bitter lemon note on the finish. Fine.
54% Sémillon, 46% Sauvignon Blanc. Already bottled.
Grassy notes of the Sauvignon dominate. Palate round and supple. Low acid but clean. (JL)
