The estate's prized Permolone and Lurghe vineyards sit upon distinctive terrain of granite and porphyry, naturally enriched with iron deposits and mineral content that creates an acidic pH profile. This mineral-rich terroir imparts a characteristic tension and energy to the wines, establishing Gattinara as another of Italy's highly respected Nebbiolo-producing regions after Barolo and Barbaresco.

The 2019 Il Putto Gattinara beautifully showcases the elegance of high-altitude Nebbiolo. Following traditional winemaking methods, including extended maceration and 26 months in neutral Slavonian oak, this medium-bodied red offers impressive depth and purity. The wine reveals layers of bright red fruits, wild alpine herbs, crushed rose petals, and delicate notes of sandalwood. Its silky texture and impeccable balance suggest excellent aging potential while remaining approachable in its youth.

Silky, elegant and wonderfully nuanced, the 2019 Gattinara Il Putto is seriously impressive. All the elements are impeccably balanced. Soaring aromatics meld into a core of bright, red-toned fruit. Medium in body, yet deep and resonant, this classically built Gattinara is fabulous. I especially admire the energy and purity here.
