Arnaldo Caprai, a family-owned winery, was founded in 1971 when textiles entrepreneur Arnaldo Caprai purchased 12.5 acres in Montefalco, Italy. In 1988, his son Marco took over and focused on promoting the region's native Sagrantino grape. Today, the winery is the leading producer of high-quality Sagrantino di Montefalco and has expanded to 370 acres. Recognized for its commitment to environmental, economic, and social sustainability, Arnaldo Caprai has become a champion for Umbrian wines, producing Montefalco DOC, Grechetto dei Colli Martani DOC, and Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG through scientific research and technological innovation.
25 Anni is the result of in-depth research and careful clonal selection of Sagrantino’s best grapes. This jubilee wine was produced for the first time in 1993 to celebrate the winery’s 25th anniversary. Since then, 25 Anni has kept its name as well as its unique character, power and elegance. Surprising complexity from blackberry jam to rose potpourri, nutmeg to pepper, pine resin to mint, clove to cocoa. Soft and persuasive, intense, persistent finish. Fresh, with complex tannins.
The 2019 Sagrantino di Montefalco 25 Anni is imposing, grumbling up with a dark blend of dried black cherries, crushed plums, sage, allspice and sweet mint. This is texturally thrilling, velvety yet cooling, weighty yet spry, washing across the palate with polished red and black fruits and slowly building black-tea tannins. A menagerie of spices lingers along tobacco and blood orange nuances, finishing with tremendous length and concentration. The balance is absolutely fantastic. This is a stunning performance.
