Description of Product
Familia Torres' Mas La Plana, the legendary Cabernet Sauvignon that stunned the wine world by defeating Château Latour at the 1979 Gault-Millau Wine Olympics, emerges from the distinctive terroir of Penedès where deep, well-drained alluvial soils of gravel, sand, and clay impart remarkable character to old-vine fruit. The exceptional 2017 vintage—marked by drought conditions and warm flowering periods—produced lower yields of perfectly concentrated grapes, vinified through careful fermentation and extended maceration before aging 18 months in French oak (60% new). This Mediterranean masterpiece presents a graceful balance of firm, dominant tannins complemented by bright acidity, offering layers of brooding currant, loamy earth, and herbaceous bramble notes that simultaneously honor both its Spanish heritage and old-world Cabernet traditions, promising significant cellar potential.
