Description
Burlotto is a family-owned winery in Verduno, Piedmont, Italy, with a long history of producing high-quality wines. The dream of the family has always been to share Barolo with the world, and they have been working towards this goal since the early 20th century. With a strong connection to the territory and a passion for winemaking, the Burlotto family has built a reputation for producing exceptional wines. Today, the winery is run by Gian Carlo Burlotto and his son Gianluca, who continue the family tradition with the brand Cascina Massara. From the southeastern edge of the Barolo zone, this Nebbiolo emerges from Castelletto, a distinctive hill in Monforte that shares its geological heritage with neighboring Serralunga d Alba through the mineral-rich Lequio Formation, where clayey marl soils alternate with sandy patches. The grapes, which experience the gentle rhythm of morning sun, afternoon winds, and evening calm, are hand-harvested and carefully transported in small boxes before being destemmed and gravity-fed into French oak vats for fermentation, where daily pump-overs and temperature-controlled maceration preserve the wine s character. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine ages in large French oak barrels for 20-33 months, then rests in bottle for at least 9 months after being bottled unfined and unfiltered, ultimately expressing what has become the site s emblematic personality: a statuesque body with powerful, determined character.
