Description of Product
Burlotto is a family-owned winery in Verduno, Piedmont, Italy, with a long history of producing high-quality wines. The dream of the family has always been to share Barolo with the world, and they have been working towards this goal since the early 20th century. With a strong connection to the territory and a passion for winemaking, the Burlotto family has built a reputation for producing exceptional wines. Today, the winery is run by Gian Carlo Burlotto and his son Gianluca, who continue the family tradition with the brand Cascina Massara.
From the northernmost vineyard in Barolo, this distinctive Nebbiolo from Verduno s iconic Monvigliero site reflects the microclimate influence of the nearby Tanaro river. The 2.02-hectare vineyard, planted in five phases between 1958 and 2015, sits in the hill s central amphitheater at 300 meters elevation, where fossilized Marls of Sant Agata form distinctive layered sheets of silt, clay, and sand. Following traditional methods, the hand-harvested grapes undergo whole-cluster vinification with foot pressing in French oak vats, followed by two months of submerged cap maceration. The wine then matures in large Slavonian and Allier oak barrels for approximately three years before being bottled unfined and unfiltered, developing an elegant profile that captures Baudelaire's notion of luxury, calm, and voluptuousness with its Levantine smokehouse aromas and a pure, salty finish.
