Description
Burlotto is a family-owned winery in Verduno, Piedmont, Italy, with a long history of producing high-quality wines. The dream of the family has always been to share Barolo with the world, and they have been working towards this goal since the early 20th century. With a strong connection to the territory and a passion for winemaking, the Burlotto family has built a reputation for producing exceptional wines. Today, the winery is run by Gian Carlo Burlotto and his son Gianluca, who continue the family tradition with the brand Cascina Massara. This classic Barolo represents a traditional blend from multiple vineyards in Verduno, the northernmost commune of the Barolo zone, where soils formed between the Tortonian and Messinian eras combine laminated fossil Marls of Sant Agata and the Cassano Spinola Formation. The fruit is sourced from four distinct sites: the south-facing Breri (0.77 hectares at 240 meters), west-facing Neirane (1 hectare at 370 meters), and the eastern-exposed Rocche Olmo (1.25 hectares) and Boscatto (1.13 hectares), both at 370 meters. Hand-harvested grapes are destemmed and gravity-fed into French oak vats for fermentation with gentle daily pump-overs and temperature control, followed by malolactic fermentation and 20-33 months aging in large French oak barrels. After bottling, the wine rests for at least 9 months, ultimately expressing a sober, rigorous character that captures the essence of its terroir with understated elegance.
