In Provence's prestigious Bandol appellation, Domaine Tempier pioneers biodynamic viticulture, following lunar cycles and using sheep for natural weed control—practices enhancing grape quality while preserving ecological harmony. Their signature rouge emerges from diverse terroirs spanning clay-limestone soils, sandy marls, and varied limestone formations across multiple communes with different exposures. This complex blend features predominantly Mourvèdre (75%) complemented by Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, and Syrah from mature 35-40 year-old vines. Hand-selected clusters undergo natural fermentation in concrete vats before aging in large oak casks for minimum 18 months. The resulting wine offers remarkable structure with characteristic garrigue herbaceousness, concentrated black fruits, and subtle leathery notes, developing additional complexity throughout its impressive 4-15 year aging potential—a quintessential expression of Bandol's distinctive character.
