Description
The Gaja name is synonymous with groundbreaking Barolo. For generations, the Gaja family has championed innovation, like Angelo Gaja s use of barriques to soften Nebbiolo s tannins. This commitment to quality shines through in the DaGromis Barolo, a captivating blend that captures the power of Serralunga and the elegance of La Morra vineyards. The name Conteisa harkens back to a century-long dispute between La Morra and Barolo over the Cerequio area, finally settled by an agreement in 1275. This Barolo DOCG comes from the 6 hectare Conteisa vineyard in Cerequio, situated at 380 meters elevation with 60-year-old vines planted in clay-calcareous marl and sandy soils facing south. First produced in 1996, the 2019 vintage benefited from a dry winter with scarce snowfall, helping protect against diseases. Abundant rainfall in April and May was followed by a heat spike in late June that stressed the vines. Significant rain set in from mid-July through August, allowing phenolic ripening to progress. Made from 100% Nebbiolo, the grapes underwent a three-week fermentation and maceration before 30 months of aging in oak. On the nose, the 2019 Conteisa shows delicate, fresh floral aromas. The palate delivers sweet wild cherry and herbs, with a voluptuous body balanced by harmonious tannins. Considered to have high aging potential, this wine embodies the historic provenance of its Cerequio origins through its elegant yet structured expression of Nebbiolo.
