Rey Campero Mezcal Espadin embodies the rugged terroir of Candelaria Yegolé in Oaxaca's Sierra Sur, where the fertile soils along Rio Quiechapa nurture diverse agave varieties on challenging slopes and canyons. This artisanal, 96-proof expression represents the culmination of over 70 years of traditional mezcal craftsmanship by Romulo Sanchez Parada and his family collective. The 100% Espadin agave undergoes an authentic production process—underground cooking for 4-5 days, open-air fermentation in wooden vats for up to 12 days, and small-batch distillation in copper pot stills. The resulting spirit delivers complex aromas of alfalfa, green bell pepper, wet slate, and sweet tobacco, followed by a palate featuring fresh tarragon, charcoal, jalapeño, and caramel apple notes. This mezcal offers an unflinching translation of its distinctive microclimate and the traditional methods that honor the family's "King of the Countryside" name.
