In 1793, brothers Hugh and John Stevenson established the Oban Brewing Company on the frontier of the Hebrides Islands, where they started producing their signature 'Cowbell Ale' and began distilling whisky the following year. The business remained in the Stevenson family for three generations until local merchant Peter Cumpstie acquired it in 1830. The arrival of the railroad in 1880 marked a new era of progress for the town and the distillery, which has changed ownership over the years while maintaining a steadfast commitment to excellence and tradition, culminating in Oban 14 Year Old being named one of six Classic Malts representing the Western Highlands region in 1989.
A second maturation in Montilla Fino sherry casks develops luxurious flavours of butterscotch, toffee, and caramel with a backbone of sea salt and smoky-sweet finish. Fruity, intense and extremely complex. A glorious zesty nose with masses of sweet fruit complemented by salt and chewy, roasted caramel malt.
