Notes of wood and reduction are all that can be discerned at present. More interesting are the finer if less concentrated flavors that flash excellent minerality on the delicate, refined and youthfully austere finale. This is notably ripe yet there is enough vibrancy that there is no heaviness. I would add that Les Véroilles is a vineyard that does not do as well in very dry vintages, which was the case in 2019, and while this is perfectly good, it is perhaps not at its usual excellent level.
Cask sample. Vibrant cherry red. There's a touch of reduction at first, giving a touch of rubber, but as that blows of, the pure dark-red fruits are singing and there's a hint of Chambolle's archetypal floral perfume. Beautifully scented. This seems to have all the best traits of 2019: glorious fruit, ripe, fresh and open. Tannins are polished and still giving a firm structure for the fruit. Fresh even with the ripeness of fruit. Long, juicy and moreish finish. You could approach this in relative youth but it should still age well. (JH)
