Vina Robles winery was founded by Hans Nef, a Swiss native who combined his rural upbringing, appreciation for agriculture, and passion for fine wine to establish a unique winery in Paso Robles, California. Inspired by the region's dynamic winegrowing potential in the mid-1990s, Nef partnered with Hans-R. Michel to plant vineyards and establish Vina Robles, aiming to produce world-class wines that blend European roots with the distinctive terroir of California's Central Coast. The winery expanded to include a hospitality center in 2007 and an amphitheater in 2013, offering visitors a comprehensive wine country experience that encompasses tastings, events, and live performances.
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon was crafted from fruit selected from two estate vineyards in Paso Robles: Creston Valley and Huerhuero. These vineyards, with their distinctive terroirs, contributed to the wine's balanced expression of varietal flavors and structure. The grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness and carefully sorted. The wine underwent a 20-month aging process in French, Hungarian, and American oak barrels, with extensive blending trials conducted after the first 8 months. A small amount of Petit Verdot was added to enhance structure. The final blend was aged for an additional 12 months to fully integrate before bottling, resulting in a wine that showcases distinctive varietal flavors, structure, richness, and a balanced mouthfeel.
Creamy, dark-fruited character with notes of walnuts, vanilla and dark licorice. Medium- to full-bodied with very fine, polished tannins. Sleek and lengthy, with a chalky texture at the end. Even and long. Drink or hold.
