Prunotto, a renowned Italian winery located in Alba, Piedmont, was founded in 1904 as a co-op and later taken over by Alfredo Prunotto and his wife Luigina in 1922. The winery gained international recognition for its Barolo and Barbaresco wines. In 1956, Alfredo Prunotto sold the company to Beppe Colla, and in 1989, the Antinori family became involved, eventually taking over production in 1994. The winery covers approximately 65 hectares (161 acres) of vineyards in the Langhe and Monferrato regions, focusing on producing high-quality red wines while also crafting white wines and grappa. Prunotto combines tradition with innovation, conducting research and experimentation in the vineyards and cellars to achieve the finest quality wines that express the unique characteristics of the region.

The 2020 Pian Romualdo Barbera d'Alba from Prunotto showcases the winery's expertise in crafting exceptional wines despite challenging weather conditions. The vintage experienced a mild winter, a dry and sunny spring, and a series of rainy days in May and June, which slowed vine development but provided valuable groundwater reserves. Ideal weather in September, with significant day and night temperature variations, ensured perfect ripening. The grapes, harvested between September 16th and 26th, underwent a 6 to 7-day maceration and 12-month aging. The result is a red-purple wine with ruby reflections, offering generous aromas of ripe black fruit and spices on the nose, and a full, balanced palate. The Barbera vines, grown in Monforte D'Alba, benefit from temperature fluctuations, imparting freshness, precise aromas, and excellent aging potential to this iconic wine first produced in 1961.
