As the fifth generational proprietors, Tim and Sabrina view themselves as custodians of the Hess brand and vineyards. Decades ago, the family patriarch Donald was drawn to California viticulture and became enamored with the Mount Veeder region. Bucking conventional wisdom at the time, he gambled that the volcanic mountainside offered an advantageous terroir to cultivate nuanced, robust wines. In 1978, he launched The Hess Collection winery at a historical site, melding his dual artistic callings by incorporating an exhibition space. Donald's daughter Sabrina and her spouse Tim now helm the family enterprise, aiming to uphold accessibility to both fermented beverages and creative works, while hopefully passing the mantle to future offspring.
The traditional red fruit aromas and flavors of the dominant Cabernet Sauvignon are led by bright cherry and wild mountain raspberry. The addition of our Malbec offers blueberry joined by notes of vanilla, cassis, creamy chocolate caramel and oak spice.
A very soft and friendly red with plum and blackberry character. Medium body with medium firm tannins and a delicious finish. 80% cabernet sauvignon, 17% malbec and 3% petit verdot. Drink now.
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder comes from a mountainous, cooler terroir in the southern end of the valley. It reveals a deep purple hue to go with a solid perfume of red and blue fruits supported by lots of wild herbs, sage, and violet nuances. It's balanced, medium-bodied, has fine, polished tannins, and a good sense of freshness on the lengthy finish. It's an impeccably made, solid Cabernet Sauvignon that's going to evolve for 10-12 years, if not longer if well stored.
