Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio is a historic producer of Barolo wines, especially from the prized Monprivato cru in Castiglione Falletto. The winery has a long and illustrious history dating back to the mid-1800s, with Mauro Mascarello currently representing the 4th generation at the helm, assisted by his daughter Elena. They are renowned for their traditional winemaking approach, aging their Barolos for around 3.5 years in large Slavonian oak casks. Their flagship wine is the Barolo Monprivato, from a vineyard they own nearly in its entirety and which contains an exceptional clone of Nebbiolo called Michét. In addition to Monprivato, they also produce vineyard-designated Barolos from Villero and Perno, as well as outstanding Freisa, Barbera and Dolcetto wines. The winery is considered one of the greatest producers in Piedmont, making profound, age-worthy wines that are among the purest expressions of their respective terroirs.
The 2021 Dolcetto d'Alba from Mascarello shows a deep ruby-red color. The nose is winey and intense, with nice fruit aromas accented by floral touches. On the palate it is dry with good body, displaying an elegant bitterness typical of the Dolcetto variety. This wine underwent traditional vinification with a floating cap and aging in old Slavonian oak botti. The vineyard is composed of clay-sandy, calcareous soils of marine origin. An outstanding representation of the Dolcetto from this historic Barolo estate.
