Francesco Rinaldi e Figli, situated near Barolo in the Langhe hills, continues a 130-year-old tradition of winemaking. Founded in 1870 by Giovanni, the company has remained family-owned and operated, with his descendants currently at the helm. Producing wines in extremely small quantities, they focus on traditional, balanced, and beautiful wines from their own vineyards, including the famous crus of Le Brunate and Cannubi. With Fabio Gemme as full-time enologist and GianFranco Cordero as consulting enologist, the winery continues to craft wines that will improve over many decades, upholding the family's legacy and passion for winemaking.
This delicate Nebbiolo opens to wild berry, rose, pressed violet, earth and powered licorice. The 2018 Barolo Cannubi takes a classic approach and underlines the elegant character of this most celebrated MGA site in the village of Barolo. The wine feels light and weightless when it first hits the palate, but don't be deceived. It offers ample power and length once you take it all in. Monica Larner
Barolo. Just mid ruby. Red fruit with minerally, spicy hints and a complex old-leather note and nutmeg. Elegant, and at the same time showing a concentrated core of fruit and chewy tannins on the palate. Long, juicy and tactile on the finish. Truly pretty. (WS)
