Domaine Tempier in Bandol, France has been a leader in sustainable viticulture for generations. Their dedication to natural methods extends from using lunar cycles to guide their planting and harvesting to incorporating sheep to weed their vineyards. They believe this biodynamic approach results in healthier vines and richer grapes.
The Estate's flagship cuvée combines the robustness of Bandol with the elegance and finesse of Tempier, thanks to its diverse terroirs and clay-limestone soils across various locations. The blend consists of approximately 75% Mourvèdre, along with Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, and Syrah, from vines averaging 35-40 years old. Hand-selected clusters are de-stemmed, crushed, and fermented in concrete vats for 3-4 weeks using indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged in large oak casks for at least 18 months before bottling, with a recommended conservation period of 4-15 years to develop its complex fruit and secondary aromas, such as woody, tobacco, and old leather notes.
