Domaine Leflaive, a family-owned winery since 1717, is a pioneer in biodynamic viticulture in Burgundy. With a total of 24 hectares in Puligny-Montrachet and 20 hectares in Mâconnais, the domaine is dedicated to cultivating Chardonnay grapes using natural and sustainable methods. Since 1996, the domaine has been practicing biodynamics, a method that excludes chemical products and promotes the life of the soil and natural balance of fauna and flora.
The Bourgogne Blanc 2020 is a white wine made from 100% Chardonnay grapes, cultivated in the commune of Puligny Montrachet. The wine is fermented in oak barrels and aged for 12 months in cask, followed by 6 months in tank. With a very light filtering and homeopathic fining, the wine is a perfect representation of the calcareous clay soils of the region. Expect a rich and complex wine with notes of buttery vanilla, ripe apple, and a hint of minerality, showcasing the unique terroir of Burgundy.
A fleshy white, with notes of peach, vanilla and lime blossoms accented by a mineral hint, tightening up on the long finish. Needs time to knit together.
A cool, pure and very pretty nose reflects notes of green apple, citrus and discreet spice wisps. There is very good delineation to the delicious middle weight flavors that are suffused with underlying tension and fine balance on the clean and dry finale. This is an excellent Bourgogne - moreover, it is one that should reward short to mid-term cellaring.
Not just any Bourgogne Blanc. Concentrated and forthright without being heavy. Just serious weight and volume for the genre. (MH)
