Located in Prémeaux-Prissey in Burgundy's prestigious wine region, Domaine Jean-Charles Rion represents five generations of winemaking heritage. Jean-Charles Rion, following his viticultural studies at Beaune and the Jules Guyot Institute in Dijon, took over the nearly 6-hectare estate that his father Olivier and grandfather Daniel established in 1995. The domaine, which began with just one hectare in Côte de Nuits Villages, now produces wines from throughout the Côte de Beaune, Côte de Nuits, and Hautes Côtes de Nuits appellations. Committed to sustainable viticulture, Jean-Charles employs traditional methods with minimal intervention, carefully managing small yields and hand-harvesting all grapes. The wines undergo careful vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with red wines and their unique Pinot Blanc-based Nuits St Georges 1er Cru "Les Terres Blanches" aging in oak barrels for 12-18 months. As a small, family-owned operation, the domaine focuses exclusively on estate-grown wines, eschewing any négociant activities, with Jean-Charles personally dedicated to producing high-quality AOP wines that genuinely express their distinctive terroirs.
This Aligoté presents a beautiful, clear gold-grey color with silver reflections. The nose reveals impressive intensity, offering aromas of white flowers (lily of the valley, lilac) alongside vine peach and lemongrass. The aromatic profile, characteristic of the Aligoté grape variety, promises a refreshing experience. The palate opens with delicacy and finesse, showing a dominant mineral character reminiscent of flint. Fresh mango and passion fruit emerge as the wine develops. It displays impressive volume while maintaining natural balance, delivering both complexity and freshness. Best enjoyed immediately, well-chilled, particularly with shellfish. Recommended serving temperature: 11-12°C (52-54°F).
