Ch Lagrange Description

All the expertise and philosophy of the Lagrange estate is apparent in this wine which is mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and aged twelve months in barrel. Le Haut-Médoc de Lagrange is produced from thirty-year-old vines located on two parcels just outside the Saint-Julien appellation. This is a wine that charms us with its unique bright character.

First we appreciate the silky robe. The nose is lively and inviting and then the entry in the palate is frank, offering spicy notes along with flavoursome blackcurrant and cherry. A wine with timeless style.

THE VINTAGE

2020, a unique year in so many ways, will forever remain in our memories. Our work routines were upset by the pandemic and our capacity to adapt to the situation, and stay on track, was essential both for the property and the staff. As in 2019, we had record annual rainfall. The mild winter provoked an early budburst and this advance continued right through to the harvest. The grapes were small, with skins rich in polyphenols. The Merlots are magnificent, boasting an opulence accentuated by the historically low yields. The decision was made to stop for 4 days before picking the Cabernets, to allow the tannins and aromas to develop to perfection : this variety brings power, freshness and length to the wines.

Jeb Dunnuck: 90 Points

The third wine of Château Lagrange, the 2020 Château Lagrange Pagus De Lagrange is a classy, medium-bodied, elegant wine with plenty of darker currant fruits, some cedar and dried herb nuances, outstanding balance, and fine-grained tannins that emerge on the finish. Drink bottles over the coming decade.

Vinous: 90 Points

The 2020 Pagus de Lagrange is a bold, fruity Haut-Médoc that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Although not hugely complex, the 2020 is juicy, generous and wonderfully inviting. Black cherry, tobacco, licorice and leather linger. Best of all, this should be quite the steal.
