Can Sumoi, a high-altitude gem in the Serra de l'Home mountain range of Penedès, Spain, embodies the essence of sustainable, terroir-driven winemaking. This certified organic estate, helmed by Pepe Raventós, sits majestically at over 600 meters elevation. The vineyard's calcareous, stony soils nurture old vines of indigenous varieties, while the Mediterranean mountain climate imparts a distinct character to the grapes. Can Sumoi's commitment to biodiversity, forest ecosystem improvement, and preservation of local viticultural traditions creates a unique environment where wines of exceptional quality and authenticity are born.

The 2022 Garnatxa - Sumoll is a testament to Can Sumoi's minimal intervention philosophy. This 50/50 blend, sourced from local growers, ferments with indigenous yeasts and matures in stainless steel for nine months. The result is a vibrant, fruit-driven wine with 12.7% alcohol, offering a perfect balance of freshness and complexity. On the nose, it presents an expressive bouquet of peach and aromatic fruits. The palate reveals a clean, primary character with subtle dusty tannins, making it an excellent food companion. This wine showcases the winery's journey towards mastering Sumoll, promising an exciting future for this indigenous variety.

Wine Advocate: 90 Points

The red 2022 Garnatxa - Sumoll was produced with a 50/50 blend of both grapes purchased from local growers. It has 12.7% alcohol, a pH of 3.39 and 5.4 grams of acidity. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, where it matured for nine months. It's primary, fruit-driven, aromatic, peachy, clean and expressive. The idea is to learn to make Sumoll and, in the long run, produce only Sumoll, not blend it with Garnacha. This has some dusty tannins and should stand up to food.
