This is aromatically similar to the Gravains with a bit more wood influence that stops short of being intrusive. As is typically the case there is more volume if less austerity to the solidly powerful flavors that delivers excellent length on the balanced, harmonious and complex finale. Note that this is going to need at least a few years to better integrate the wood treatment. From a .45 ha holding.
Producer Note: Guillaume Camus runs this 9.5 ha domaine located on the outskirts of Savigny. He described the 2022 vintage as "one that was very hot and dry and here in Savigny, there was quite a bit of hydric stress in the vines because the big June storm that hit much of the Côte, didn't drop much rain. As such, it was definitely drier here plus there was a minor hailstorm that hit our vines in Chorey. We picked beginning on the 31st of August and the fruit was clean, ripe and abundant with relatively thick skins. For example, we averaged between 45 and 50 hl/ha, which is unheard of for us. Potential alcohols were good but not high at between 13 and 13.5% and I used around 30% whole clusters for the vinifications, which lasted about 3 weeks. I also used more new wood than usual, which is to say about 30% because volumes were so low in 2021 that we had to replenish our barrel stock. So while new wood is not our style, the wines will need an extra year or so of cellaring to absorb the oak. As to the wines, they're certainly ripe but attractively fresh. Moreover, they should be approachable young but have no trouble successfully aging too." I agree with Camus' take that his wines should drink well young but have no trouble rewarding mid-term keeping. I would also agree that the style of his 2022s is oakier than usual but not so much that it's off-putting. Camus noted that the 2022 reds were bottled in December 2023 and January 2024.
