Inspired by the wine movement of the 1970s in Napa Valley, Koerner and Joan Rombauer entered the wine business in 1976, then launched Rombauer Vineyards in 1980. As stewards of the land, the Rombauers have strived to produce the best wine an appellation, terroir and climate will achieve. As the second generation takes over, they are dedicated to continuing their parents’ vision.
This wine exudes aromas of lime, mango, grapefruit and white peach with a hint of fresh-cut grass. The palate is fresh and enticing as grapefruit and passion fruit intertwines with key lime, making the mouth water. Balanced, yet lively acidity lingers on the palate inviting another taste. The finish gives the wine length and vibrant freshness.
Rombauer's 2022 Sauvignon Blanc was handpicked at night, fermented cool (mainly in stainless steel, with 10% in older oak and 2% in concrete) and bottled young (January). A blend of Sonoma (76%) and Napa (24%) fruit, it's slightly grassy, with prominent lime and grapefruit notes, plus some riper fig and guava. Medium-bodied, it's clean, refreshing fun.
Fruit sourced 76% from Sonoma County, 24% Napa County. Harvested between 19 August and 12 September. Fermented and aged 87% in stainless-steel tanks, 10% in neutral French oak barrels, and 3% in concrete.
Tasted blind. Pale lemon in colour. Light lemony aromas with perfumed talcum. Elevated acidity and a sulphury salinity to the finish. Very basic. (SCJ)
Aromas of ripe pears, guava, leafy herbs and white flowers. Medium-bodied, juicy and fresh with bright acidity cutting through. Fleshy finish. Drink now. Screw cap.
