Founded in 1921 by cooper Paul Lebrun in Aligny-Cosne, Maison Foucher is a "Petit Négociant" dedicated to crafting classic Loire Valley wines at exceptional values. Now led by the Foucher family and partner Jean Mounard, a former fine wine broker, the estate has elevated its quality by focusing on small-batch production from selected plots, some organically farmed, in regions like Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. Their lineup, including the "Petit Le Mont" Touraine Sauvignon and wines from Sancerre and Chinon, offers remarkable price-to-quality ratios, showcasing balance and delineation typically found in more expensive appellations.
This 2019 Sancerre is a rare library offering from Maison Foucher, sourced from the famed Monts Damnés Cru in Chavignol. Known as one of the warmest sites in the village, its stony, white soils reflect light, aiding in ripening. The vines are rooted in Kimmeridgian limestone, characterized by its very stony composition and minimal topsoil. This 100% Sauvignon Blanc undergoes fermentation and aging entirely in stainless steel tanks, preserving its varietal purity and terroir expression. A limited production wine, it showcases the exceptional quality and aging potential of Sancerre from this esteemed cru.
