Domaine Parent, a renowned winery in Pommard, Burgundy, has a rich history dating back to the mid-17th century. The Parent family has been dedicated to winemaking for generations, with notable milestones such as guiding Thomas Jefferson through the vineyards in 1787 and founding the Domaine in 1803. Today, Anne Parent leads the winery, overseeing 22 hectares of vineyards and driving a renaissance in their wines. She is also a pioneer for women in wine, founding the "Femmes et Vins de Bourgogne" association. Domaine Parent is celebrated for its exceptional Pommard 1èr Cru and Corton wines, and is now embracing organic and biodynamic practices.
The Ladoix Premier Cru La Corvée from Domaine Parent reveals itself with an impressively steady, brilliant hue. This powerful Pinot Noir, grown on clay-limestone soils, unfolds gradually with enticing aromas of cherry and redcurrant. The palate is distinguished by its ripe, silky tannins, a testament to its careful vinification which includes hand harvesting, double sorting, and a cold maceration period of 3-5 days. Following fermentation on skins for 16-18 days, the wine matures for 14 months in French oak barrels (30% new), resulting in a harmonious expression of its Premier Cru terroir.
Moderate wood and menthol influences can be found on the ripe red berry fruit and earth-scented nose where a hint of kirsch lurks in the background. The medium-bodied flavors are rich to the point of opulence before tightening up on the dusty, lightly mineral-inflected and sneaky long finale that offers just a bit more depth.
The 2022 Ladoix La Corvée 1er Cru, completely de-stemmed, has a perfumed, violet-tinged bouquet with a spring in its step. The medium-bodied palate has supple, fine tannins. It is fresh and vibrant, with a keen thread of acidity and a precise finish. This is a lovely Ladoix to enjoy over the next 12- to 15-years.
