A ripe, fresh and equally floral-suffused nose offers up a mix of red and dark currant tinged with crushed fennel. The very rich, caressing and seductively textured mid-palate contrasts somewhat with the punchy, powerful, dusty and robust finale. At least some patience will be required for his very good Morey villages.
The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis en la Rue de Vergy, including around two-thirds whole bunches, has a well-defined bouquet. The stems are fairly noticeable at present, though that will be soaked up by the fruit with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy, fine tannins. The 2021 is harmonious and quite crunchy; blackberry commingles with tar and subtle tobacco notes towards its satisfying finish. Good potential, but patience required.
