The Warre family's involvement in Portuguese wine began in 1729 when William Warre, born in India to a family with East India Company ties, arrived in Portugal and became a partner in a wine export company. By the late 18th century, Warre's was a leading Port wine trader. The Symington family's connection to Warre's began in 1905 when Andrew James Symington, who had arrived from Scotland in 1882, became a partner in Warre & Co. The Symingtons, now in their 13th generation in the Port trade, have owned and managed Warre's since 1908. Today, six family members are actively involved in all aspects of production, maintaining a unique, centuries-long commitment to the Port trade.
Warrior is delicious served at the end of a meal, for example with rich, nutty or chocolate desserts, as well as strong cheese. Although usually served at room temperature, Reserve Ports are equally delicious when served slightly chilled in hot weather.
