Estate Cabernet Sauvignon triumphed over top Bordeaux Chateaux at the Judgment of Paris blind tasting, cementing both the winery and Napa Valley as world-class wine producers. All from the estate S.L.V. Vineyard in Stages Leap and aged 21 months in 90% new French oak, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon S.L.V. sports a deep purple/ruby color to go with a Saint-Julien like notes of blackcurrants, damp earth, tobacco and lead pencil. With medium to full-bodied richness, ripe, sweet tannin, beautiful purity and a great finish, it’s another terrific wine from this estate that can be drunk today of cellared for 15+ years.

The 2014s are not yet in bottle. The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon S.L.V. Estate-Grown has a dense purple color, a big, sweet kiss of crème de cassis, licorice and spring flowers. It is full-bodied, opulent and not far off the high standard achieved by the 2013. This is a full-bodied, voluptuous wine that should drink beautifully for the next 20-25 years.  Robert M. Parker, Jr.
