Rutherford Hill Winery, established in 1972, pioneered California Merlot production by capitalizing on the Napa Valley's similarity to Bordeaux's Pomerol region. This strategic decision led to the winery's success, with Merlot remaining its flagship wine, accounting for 75% of production and becoming one of Napa Valley's leading Merlots. In 1996, the Terlato Wine Group acquired Rutherford Hill, implementing quality-focused improvements to further enhance the winery's reputation and offerings.

This Merlot exhibits a ruby color and offers intense aromas of cherry, plum, and pomegranate, complemented by hints of anise and cola. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with flavors of cranberry, pomegranate, and dried cherries, concluding with a cocoa finish. The wine is an elegant blend of Bordeaux varietals, presenting rich aromas and prolonged flavors. It boasts lavish cherry notes, a balanced structure, and silky, full-flavored characteristics.
